  7. Installation Instructions

  9. Running the Setup program installs a Starware Program Group with icons representing the movie
  10. player and readme files. Installation is optional. Double clicking on the file from the 
  11. Windows File Manager will also run the program.

  14. System Requirements

  16. To play StarTV you should have a minimum of a 386 CPU with super VGA (8-bit 
  17. (256 color)) or better graphics, a sound card, Microsoft Windows 3.X , DOS 5.0 (or 
  18. higher), a CD-ROM drive and a mouse.  A minimun of 4 megabytes of RAM is 
  19. recommended.

  21. For viewing digital video a "Hi Color" (16-bit (64,000) color) video adapter is 
  22. recommended.  An 8-bit display also looks okay.  The release of QuickTime for Windows 
  23. included with StarTV is optimized for 16-bit video.

  28. Movie Quality
  29.  
  30. The quality of a Starware movie depends a lot on a computer's configuration.  Having the 
  31. fastest computer does not guarantee the highest quality movie.  For example, a slow CD-
  32. ROM drive or a slow video adapter will degrade the quality even on the fastest computer.  
  33. Starware has taken great care to provide you with top quality movie that is playable on a 
  34. wide range of computers.

  36. Hints for Improving Movie Quality

  38. 1. If you are running Windows in a high resolution mode (800x600 or 1024x768), 
  39. temporarily lower it to 640x480.  This will greatly improve the movie quality providing 
  40. smoother motion.  It will also increase the size of the movie.

  42. 2. Changing the color depth will also have profound effects.  Running Windows in a 256 
  43. color mode provides good performance but only adequate picture quality.  Running in 24-
  44. bit(16 million) color provides excellent picture quality but increases jerky motion.  The 
  45. best color depth is either 15-bit(32,000 colors) or 16-bit(65,000 colors), usually referred 
  46. to as Hi-color.  Hi-color mode provides the best picture quality and video performance for 
  47. running Starware movies.
